Mangaluru railway area to come under Mysuru division of SWR from Oct 1: Brijesh Chota
Mangaluru: The Mangaluru railway area will come under the Mysuru division of the South Western Railway (SWR) from October 1, Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chota said.
Currently, the Mangaluru railway area is divided between the SWR and Southern Railway (SR) zones. Chota said he had repeatedly raised the long-pending demand with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and welcomed the decision to bring the area under a single railway zone.
According to a Railway Board communication, Mangaluru and areas including Ullal, currently under the Palakkad division of Southern Railway, will be transferred to the Mysuru division of SWR. Consequently, the interchange point between SWR and SR will shift from Padil to Ullal.

However, Thokur station will continue to remain under the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) and will serve as the interchange point between KRCL and SWR.
The changes will come into effect from October 1. The Railway Board has directed the authorities to complete necessary preparatory measures, including the transfer of posts and control arrangements.
Chota said bringing the Mangaluru railway area under a single zone would reduce administrative hurdles, enable quicker resolution of passenger-related issues and improve coordination. It would also give greater impetus to railway infrastructure and connectivity projects in coastal Karnataka, he added.
