Bengaluru police send 31 Bangladeshi nationals to Malda for deportation

Bengaluru: As many as 31 Bangladeshi nationals, who had earlier been detained from different parts of Bengaluru, were deported on Monday as part of the city police’s ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration.

The detainees, picked up from the jurisdiction of 10 different police stations, were escorted from Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) Bengaluru to Malda railway station in West Bengal, from where further deportation procedures will be carried out.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronic City) M Narayana said the 31 Bangladeshi nationals were accompanied by 20 police personnel. They are expected to reach Malda around 5pm on Tuesday.

“Today, 31 Bangladeshi nationals detained under the jurisdiction of 10 police stations were sent from SMVT Bengaluru to Malda railway station for deportation and further processing,” Narayana said.

Bengaluru police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh urged citizens to share information about suspected illegal immigrants with the police but cautioned them against taking the law into their own hands.

“Public cooperation is essential, but it must remain within the legal framework,” he said.

The commissioner said ‘Operation Mukta’, launched to identify and take action against suspected illegal immigrants residing in different parts of the city, would continue.
