India finish Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with 85 medals; Doha takes over as 2030 host
Aichi-Nagoya: India wrapped up its campaign at the 2026 Asian Games with an impressive 85 medals, finishing fourth in the overall standings as the Aichi-Nagoya Games concluded after more than two weeks of competition.
India’s medal tally comprised 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, reflecting strong performances across several sporting disciplines. Shooter Neeru Dhandha, a double gold and silver medallist, was India’s flagbearer at the closing ceremony.
The Games also saw memorable performances by Indian athletes in hockey, cricket, boxing, archery, golf and athletics, with the country’s women athletes making significant contributions to the medal haul.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Indian contingent on its performance, describing the campaign as a proud chapter in the country’s sporting journey.
In a post on X, Singh praised the athletes’ talent, determination and sporting excellence, and extended his appreciation to the sportspersons, coaches and support staff for their dedication and sacrifice.
He also credited the sustained encouragement and support for Indian athletes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the growing strength of Indian sport.
The closing ceremony marked the end of the Aichi-Nagoya Games, with the Asian Games torch being handed over to Qatari representatives. Doha will host the 2030 edition of the continental sporting event.
