Karnataka’s Drought-Hit Taluks Rise to 226 as Nine More Are Added
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has declared nine additional taluks drought-hit, taking the total number of affected taluks in the state from 217 to 226, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara said.
The additional taluks were identified based on scientific assessments and field inspections. Sakaleshpura in Hassan district has been classified as severely drought-hit, while the remaining eight taluks have been declared moderately drought-hit.

The newly added taluks are:
- Belagavi district: Khanapura
- Shivamogga district: Hosanagara and Sagara
- Dakshina Kannada district: Puttur, Moodabidri and Mulki
- Uttara Kannada district: Joida and Dandeli
Parameshwara said addressing the drought situation and protecting distressed farmers remained a priority for the government.
He added that the administration would continue monitoring conditions in other taluks. Areas meeting the prescribed criteria would be included in the drought-hit list in subsequent phases.
The government aims to protect farmers’ livelihoods, provide appropriate compensation for crop losses and take necessary measures to safeguard rural communities affected by drought, he said.
