‘Castes May Differ, but Ethics and Culture Are One’: MLC Dr.Ravi C.T.
Jamkhandi: Differences in caste should not divide society, as its ethical values and cultural heritage remain common, BJP MLC Dr. Ravi C.T. said, urging people not to allow political interests to create divisions between the Veerashaiva and Lingayat communities.
He was speaking at the 35th annual Sharannavaratri Dasara Dharma Sammelana, held at the Sri Basavanna Temple in Kadapatti, Jamkhandi taluk, under the presidency of Srimad Rambhapuri Jagadguru, in the presence of several religious leaders.
Ravi said attempts had been made in the past to create divisions between the two communities for political gains, but stressed that social unity was essential to preserving religion, culture and national identity.
Referring to Basavanna’s Vachanas, he said ethical conduct and mutual respect should form the foundation of society. He cited the teachings against stealing, killing, lying, disrespecting others and self-praise, adding that Basavanna’s message of righteous conduct remained relevant to humanity.
He also said Sanatana Dharma emphasised the welfare of all living beings and that efforts to separate the Pancha Peethas and Basavanna from the broader religious tradition should not become a source of social division.

Highlighting agricultural challenges, Ravi expressed concern over declining soil health due to excessive chemical use. Quoting a farmer’s observation that the death of soil leaves humanity with nowhere to turn, he called for serious reflection on sustainable agriculture and farmers’ growing dependence on others.
He also referred to reports of young men from farming families in Mandya district registering for a matrimonial camp, describing the difficulty faced by farmers in finding brides as a matter requiring social introspection. He urged society to respect farmers’ dignity and self-reliance.
Ravi said Navaratri symbolised the defeat of evil and protection of the righteous. He called on people to overcome negative traits, uphold noble values and remain united against forces harmful to society and the nation.
He added that Ayudha Puja should be viewed not merely as a ritual but also as a reminder of the responsibility to protect righteousness and the country.
Praising Rambhapuri Jagadguru for consistently advocating national interests, Sanatana Dharma and truth, Ravi said the religious leader’s commitment to guiding society without personal considerations was an inspiration.
Several religious leaders, scholars and dignitaries attended the event, including agricultural expert Kavita Mishra, former MLC G.S. Nyamagouda, Prof. G.S. Natesh and representatives of various religious institutions.
