Millions Gather at Nagpur’s Deekshabhoomi for 70th Dhammachakra Pravartan Day
Nagpur: Millions of followers gathered at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur on Tuesday to pay tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar on the occasion of the 70th Dhammachakra Pravartan Day.
Addressing the main ceremony, revered Buddhist monk Vannasiri Mahathero from Myanmar said Dr Ambedkar embraced Buddhism because the Buddha’s Dhamma offered a path towards building a better society for humanity and the world.
He said it was the responsibility of Dr Ambedkar’s followers to preserve, practise and carry forward the Dhamma that he had embraced and propagated.

Dr Ambedkar embraced Buddhism at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur on October 14, 1956, on the occasion of Vijayadashami, along with a large number of followers. The historic conversion marked a significant moment in India’s Buddhist movement.
Since then, the occasion has been observed annually as Dhammachakra Pravartan Day, drawing followers to Deekshabhoomi to commemorate Dr Ambedkar’s legacy and his embrace of Buddhism.
