India, Switzerland discuss closer ties in trade, technology and innovation
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday hosted Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin at Rashtrapati Bhavan, underlining the potential for closer cooperation between India and Switzerland across trade, investment, technology and other areas.
Murmu welcomed Parmelin and said the two countries share warm and cordial relations based on common values of democracy and the rule of law. She noted that bilateral cooperation spans trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, culture and people-to-people ties.
Describing Switzerland as an important trade and investment partner, Murmu said the implementation of the India-European Free Trade Association Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement had created further opportunities to expand economic ties.

She highlighted the presence of Swiss companies in India, particularly in infrastructure projects involving roads, railway bridges and tunnels. According to her, Swiss firms could also explore emerging sectors such as clean and green technology and artificial intelligence.
Murmu also welcomed agreements signed during Parmelin’s visit covering migration and mobility, research and technology transfer.
The two leaders expressed confidence that closer India-Switzerland cooperation would benefit people in both countries and further strengthen bilateral relations. Murmu also hosted a banquet in honour of Parmelin.
