New Delhi: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday called on the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for its expansion and functioning over the next 25 years.

Chairing the 93rd meeting of the NCDC General Council in New Delhi, Shah said the corporation’s presence across all states and Union territories was a significant achievement, with its benefits reaching small farmers, livestock rearers, fishermen and rural women.

He stressed the need to strengthen the institution’s role in supporting the cooperative sector and expanding its reach among rural communities.

Shah said the NCDC would play an important role in making the Northeast self-reliant through cooperatives by 2030. He also highlighted the potential of the circular economy to improve the profitability of cooperative sugar mills.

The minister emphasised that a long-term strategy would help the NCDC expand its activities and contribute more effectively to the growth of the cooperative movement across the country.
