Amit Shah urges Congress apology over ‘Vande Mataram’ row
Chittorgarh: Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday accused the Congress of disrespecting ‘Vande Mataram’ during an Independence Day programme at the party headquarters and demanded that it apologise to the people.
Addressing a public event in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh, Shah alleged that the patriotic song was stopped midway during the programme, calling the incident an insult to the nation. He said people would not forgive such an act.
Shah also accused the Congress of undermining the significance of ‘Vande Mataram’ due to what he described as vote-bank politics. The song, he said, had inspired thousands of freedom fighters during the struggle for independence.
Taking a dig at senior Congress leaders, Shah said some of them were speaking while the song was being played at the party headquarters. The party should be ashamed of the incident, he said.
Shah was in Chittorgarh to launch several development projects. He also unveiled a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his visit.
