New Delhi: The Congress has intensified its attack on the BJP over the Ankita Bhandari case, demanding presidential intervention over the reported appointment of Dushyant Gautam as a Governor.

AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal shared the party’s position on social media, stating that he, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Priyanka Gandhi had expressed solidarity with Ankita Bhandari’s family.

Venugopal alleged that the family continued to suffer while seeking justice and accused the BJP leadership of protecting Gautam, whom the family has allegedly identified as the “VIP” connected to the incident. He questioned the reported appointment, claiming it would undermine the family’s pursuit of justice.

The Congress urged the President of India to intervene urgently and reconsider the decision, describing it as an insult to Ankita Bhandari’s family and the Constitution.

Venugopal also criticised the pace of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case, alleging that proceedings had dragged on for more than four years because influential BJP leaders were involved.

He said the appointment would diminish the stature of the Governor’s office and accused the BJP of failing women in Uttarakhand and across the country.

The allegations and political criticism come amid continuing demands for justice from Ankita Bhandari’s family. The claims concerning Gautam’s alleged role and political protection are allegations made by the Congress and should not be treated as established findings without verified evidence or official conclusions.
