New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered an FIR over the alleged pellet-gun injury suffered by student activist Sahil Lochab during a protest against alleged NEET irregularities and question paper leaks, days after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi staged a protest outside Parliament Street police station along with the injured youth.

Lochab was allegedly injured during the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest at Jantar Mantar. The Congress claimed that a pellet injury caused serious damage to his right eye and that he faced the risk of losing his vision.

Rahul Gandhi had alleged that police initially refused to register an FIR despite a complaint. On Friday, he visited Connaught Place police station and later the DCP office at Parliament Street police station, seeking details of the legal action taken in the case.

Rahul also questioned the alleged use of lathis and pellet guns against protesting students and sought action against personnel found responsible.

He later staged a protest outside the police station with Lochab, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders, demanding justice for the student.

While the Congress alleged that security personnel used pellet guns against peaceful protesters, Delhi Police have denied using such weapons. The BJP criticised Rahul’s protest, with leader Ravi Shankar Prasad accusing him of indulging in “politics of anarchy”.

Police have registered the case against unidentified persons. Further investigation is expected to establish who allegedly fired the pellet gun.
