Hindu Jagarana Vedike seeks action over cattle theft, illegal transport in Udupi
Byndoor: The Byndoor unit of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike has urged police to intensify night patrols and take strict legal action over alleged cattle theft and illegal transportation in the Kollur police station limits of Udupi district.
The organisation raised concerns over recurring incidents reported near Maranakatte Temple, where cattle are allegedly being stolen and transported. It also cited allegations of cattle being slaughtered before transportation and said a complaint had already been registered at Kollur police station under Crime No. 57/2026.
The Vedike claimed that CCTV footage showed cattle being forcibly loaded into a car and taken away from an area near the temple. It said the incidents had caused concern among devotees and local residents, particularly farming families who depend on cattle for their livelihood.

The organisation has called for a detailed investigation to determine whether an organised network is involved in the alleged thefts and illegal transportation.
Demands increased night patrols
The Vedike has placed five key demands before the police, including registering cases under applicable laws, tracing stolen cattle and arresting those responsible. It has also sought legal checks of suspicious vehicles, increased night patrols around Maranakatte Temple and nearby villages, and a review of pending cattle theft cases to identify those involved.
The organisation said police should treat the complaints seriously and take preventive measures to address concerns over cattle safety and public security.
Warning of protests if the alleged incidents continue or police action is inadequate, the Vedike said it may launch agitations to press for action.
