Trump Announces Energy-Sector Ceasefire Between Russia and Ukraine

Donald-Trump

Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced an immediate ceasefire in the energy sector between Russia and Ukraine, stating that both countries have agreed to the arrangement.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump urged Moscow and Kyiv to honour the agreement and refrain from violating the ceasefire.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the announcement but stressed that the agreement must be implemented on the ground.

Meanwhile, Russian drone and glide-bomb attacks on Ukraine have reportedly continued. Zelenskyy said a power plant in Kharkiv had also been targeted.

He alleged that Ukraine’s power generation and transmission facilities had faced more than 200 attacks over the past week, while gas and oil installations were targeted in another 17 attacks. According to him, the strikes had left more than 150 people dead and over 700 injured.

Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s desire for peace, questioning whether Russia was equally committed. He said he was awaiting details of the US-Russia talks and urged Moscow to abide by the ceasefire declaration.
