New Delhi: Telecom connectivity is gradually returning to cyclone-hit areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, with network availability in Andhra Pradesh reaching 99.18%, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said.

The department, in coordination with telecom service providers, is carrying out restoration work following heavy rain, flash floods, fallen trees and damage to power infrastructure caused by Cyclone Arnab.

In Andhra Pradesh, network availability stands at 98.5% in West Godavari and 91.96% in Dr B R Ambedkar Konaseema district. Power disruptions and localised optical fibre cable cuts remain the main challenges.

Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) has been activated across affected districts, allowing subscribers to access another operator’s network if their own provider’s service is unavailable. Eleven Cell on Wheels (COW) units have also been deployed to strengthen emergency connectivity.

In Odisha, telecom services in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts are gradually improving as rainfall eases and floodwaters recede. Service providers are working to restore the remaining affected network sites.

The DoT said emergency connectivity arrangements were being maintained to support residents as well as relief and restoration operations.

How to access ICR

Mobile users should keep automatic network selection enabled in their phone settings. If the phone does not connect automatically, they can go to Settings, select Mobile Networks and Network Operators, and manually choose another available network.
