Darshan seeks one-week delay in approver statement in Renukaswamy murder case

Bengaluru: Actor Darshan, who is currently in custody in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, has sought a further delay in the recording of the statement of co-accused Pradosh Rao, who has agreed to turn approver in the case.

The 59th City Civil and Sessions Court (CCH) had scheduled the recording of Pradosh’s approver statement for September 28. Darshan’s counsel has now filed an application seeking a one-week postponement, stating that the actor intends to challenge the order permitting Pradosh to become an approver before the Supreme Court.

The defence has sought time to file an appeal before the apex court and has requested that the recording of the approver’s statement be deferred until the legal process is initiated.

Earlier, Darshan had challenged the sessions court’s decision permitting Pradosh to turn approver before the Karnataka High Court. After hearing arguments from both sides, the High Court dismissed the plea.

The High Court had observed that the decision allowing an accused to become an approver could not ordinarily be challenged at that stage. It said the process could be questioned if any procedural irregularity was found in the recording or related proceedings.

With the sessions court now scheduled to record Pradosh’s statement on September 28, the defence has once again approached the trial court seeking more time.

The development comes amid the ongoing investigation and trial proceedings in the high-profile case, in which Darshan and several others are accused in the murder of Renukaswamy.
