Film stars must use influence responsibly, says President Murmu

Ekta Nagar: Film personalities, particularly actors who wield considerable influence over young people, should use their visibility to promote positive messages and stay away from endorsing products that could harm public health, President Droupadi Murmu said at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar.

Addressing the gathering at the Statue of Unity complex, Murmu underlined the wider social responsibility of the film industry. She said actors and other prominent film personalities have a significant influence on society and should exercise caution while endorsing products.

The President also called for greater representation of women on National Film Awards juries. She stressed the need to strengthen social security measures for workers employed in the film industry.

Anant Nag honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the country’s highest recognition in the field of cinema.

Among other awardees, Malayalam actor Mammootty was recognised for Bramayugam, while Kartik Aaryan received an award for Chandu Champion. Yami Gautam and Aditya Dhar also received recognition for Article 370.

Murmu specifically highlighted the award given to the Santali-language short film Angen, describing it as a reflection of India’s linguistic and cultural diversity.

First National Film Awards ceremony outside Delhi

The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony was held outside Delhi for the first time, with the event taking place at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the decision was aimed at promoting tourism and showcasing India’s prominent destinations. He said similar award ceremonies could be organised at other well-known tourist destinations across the country in the future.
