Sriharikota: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its NVS-03 navigation satellite aboard the GSLV-F18 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 11.51pm on Friday.

The 2,250-kg satellite was placed in its intended orbit, marking the 20th flight of the GSLV launch vehicle.

NVS-03 is the third satellite in the second-generation series of India’s indigenous Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) system. Its addition is expected to improve positioning, navigation and timing services.

NavIC provides coverage across the Indian mainland and up to 1,500km beyond its boundaries. The system serves as India’s indigenous alternative to GPS and supports applications such as road and maritime navigation, disaster management, precision agriculture and defence operations.
