MYSURU: Twenty-three-year-old Mysuru golfer Pranavi Urs scripted history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in golf at the Asian Games.

Pranavi held her nerve in a tightly contested final round, finishing with an even-par 70 to end the four-day competition at 15-under 265. She finished one stroke clear of her closest rival to claim the gold.

The Mysuru golfer briefly lost her three-stroke advantage after a triple bogey on the third hole. However, she responded strongly, carding three birdies later in the round to regain control and stay on top until the finish.

Pranavi’s performance also helped India secure a silver medal in the women’s team event. The team’s result was determined by the best scores of two players. Alongside Pranavi, Aditi Ashok shot a 67 in the final round, while Diksha Dagar returned a 77.

India finished with a combined score of 14-under 546 to take silver, while China won the team gold with 22-under 538.

Pranavi’s gold marks India’s first Asian Games gold in golf since Shiv Kapur won the men’s individual title at the 2002 edition.

The historic performance adds another significant milestone to Indian women’s golf, with Pranavi becoming the first Indian woman to claim an Asian Games individual gold in the sport.
