New Delhi: Hours after announcing his retirement from Test cricket, India pacer Mohammed Shami took to X to share an emotional farewell message, reflecting on his 13-year journey in the longest format.

Recalling his first appearance in India’s white jersey, Shami said every wicket, challenge, injury and comeback had taught him valuable lessons.

“I’m leaving the white jersey behind, but the memories associated with it will stay with me forever. Test cricket was not just a format for me; it was a special part of my life,” he wrote.

The fast bowler thanked his teammates, coaches, family and millions of fans for their support. He also acknowledged the BCCI and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for providing him with opportunities.

“My final delivery in Test cricket may have been bowled, but the pride of having represented India will always remain in my heart,” he added.

Shami finished his Test career with 229 wickets from 64 matches at an average of 27.71, including six five-wicket hauls. He made his debut against the West Indies at Eden Gardens on November 6, 2013.
