Delhi SIR notices do not mean voter names will be deleted, ECI clarifies

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has clarified that notices issued to voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi’s electoral rolls do not mean their names will be automatically deleted.

The clarification follows misinformation circulating on social media about the notices. The ECI said system-generated notices are being issued to voters whose names appear in the draft roll but whose records could not be linked to the previous intensive revision list, or where discrepancies were found during the linking process.

Voters receiving notices can submit their responses and relevant documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO). The ERO will take the final decision after considering the documents and the BLO’s report.

The Commission stressed that no voter’s name can be deleted without giving the person an opportunity to present their case. Any deletion must follow a formal order citing valid reasons and providing an avenue for appeal.

Delhi’s draft electoral roll was published on September 20. The process for notices, claims and objections will continue until November 18, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on November 22.

Voters can check SIR-related information through the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, district election offices and the ECI’s Voters’ Services Portal.
